Clear Aligners for Teenagers

Clear aligner treatment is becoming increasingly popular amongst teenagers and young adults — and it's easy to see why. At The Forum Orthodontics we now offer two outstanding clear aligner systems for teens: Invisalign® and Angel Aligners. Both are more subtle, more comfortable, and far less intrusive than traditional braces, and because the aligners are fully removable, teens can eat as normal and keep up with their brushing and flossing routine without any fuss.

Are clear aligners suitable for teenagers?

Clear aligner treatment for teenagers works almost identically to how it would for an adult. We use a series of custom-made transparent aligners to guide your teen's smile into a new alignment discreetly and efficiently — no metal brackets, no wires, no discomfort at mealtimes.

Both Invisalign® and Angel Aligners are fast becoming the preferred choice for teens. They are speedier, more subtle, and more comfortable than traditional fixed braces, and they fit around the realities of a busy teenage life. During your teen's free consultation, our Orthodontist will assess their smile and advise which system is the better fit for their needs.

How does clear aligner treatment for teens work?

When we see your teen for their free consultation, we will listen to your concerns, assess their smile, and develop a customised treatment plan. We may also take photographs and a digital scan of their teeth at this stage using our state-of-the-art iTero scanner.

If you choose Invisalign®, we use the scan to produce an Invisalign® ClinCheck — a 3D simulation that shows exactly how your teen's teeth will move and what their end result will look like, which we can share with you by email to review at home. Your teen will then receive a series of clear aligners, each shaped slightly differently to gently guide the teeth into alignment. They'll wear each set for a week, progressing through the series until their new smile is achieved.

If you choose Angel Aligners, your teen's scan is used to produce aligners using Angel Aligners' advanced '7+3' dual aligner system. A softer aligner is worn for the first seven days to encourage gentle tooth movement, followed by a firmer aligner for three days to refine and stabilise that stage. This efficient approach is designed to optimise results and may reduce overall treatment time, with fewer visits to the practice needed along the way.

Both Invisalign® and Angel Aligners are designed to fit seamlessly into teenage life. Because the aligners are fully removable, your teen won't need to make any changes to their diet — they simply take them out to eat and drink, then pop them back in. Brushing and flossing remain completely normal too, making it much easier to maintain good oral hygiene throughout treatment.

Whether it's school sports, music performances, parties, or prom night, clear aligners won't get in the way. They can even be removed for very short periods when it really matters, as long as they are worn for the recommended 22 hours per day overall.
