What are clear aligners?

Clear aligners are a clinically proven and highly effective method of straightening your teeth without the need for metal brackets or wires. Instead of traditional braces, clear aligners use a series of bespoke, transparent plastic trays to gently guide your teeth into their ideal positions.

At The Forum Orthodontics we offer two leading clear aligner systems for adults: Invisalign® and Angel Aligners. Both are custom made to fit your teeth and both are fully removable, so you can take them out for meals, business meetings, weddings, and other important events. The optimum amount of time to wear your aligners is 22 hours per day.

How does clear aligner treatment work?

The first step is to take a virtual scan of your teeth using our state-of-the-art iTero digital scanner. This allows our Orthodontist to view a precise 3D recreation of your smile, plan your treatment in detail, and achieve the best possible results.

If you choose Invisalign®, we use the scan to produce an Invisalign® ClinCheck — a digital simulation that shows exactly how your teeth will move over the course of treatment, and what your end result will look like. We can even send this to you by email so you can review it at home. Based on the ClinCheck, Invisalign® manufactures a series of custom-made aligners for your teeth. Each week you move on to a new set, each shaped slightly differently to encourage your teeth progressively into their new positions.

If you choose Angel Aligners, your scan informs the production of aligners using Angel Aligners' advanced '7+3' dual aligner system. A softer aligner is worn for the first seven days to guide gentle tooth movement, followed by a firmer aligner for three days to refine and stabilise each stage. This intelligent approach is designed to improve treatment efficiency and may shorten your overall treatment time — with fewer in-practice visits required along the way.

Our clear aligner options

We offer a range of clear aligner treatments to suit different needs, budgets, and timescales. At your free consultation our Orthodontist will recommend the option best suited to your smile.

Invisalign® Express: The fastest Invisalign® option, with treatment lasting on average seven weeks. Ideal for very simple misalignments and minor movements of the front six teeth.

Invisalign® Lite: A 14-week course of treatment that can achieve substantial tooth movements within a shorter timeframe.

Invisalign® Comprehensive: Our full Invisalign® treatment, addressing cases from moderate difficulty through to more complex misalignments. Treatment typically takes between 4–8 months, though this can vary depending on the complexity of your case.

Angel Aligners: Using an innovative dual aligner system, Angel Aligners are suitable for a wide range of orthodontic needs, from mild to more complex cases. The advanced 7+3 approach is designed to optimise efficiency and may reduce overall treatment time compared to conventional aligner systems.
